Master’s Program in Rutgers University

1. About the Institution

Rutgers, the State University of New Jersey, founded in 1766, is one of the world's top public research universities and the largest institution of higher education in New Jersey. In 2020, Rutgers University was ranked 62nd in the U.S by US News; It has three campuses, the main campus locates in New Brunswick, which less than 40 miles from New York City. Scientific research in Rutgers University is quite strong, and its academic reputation is second only to Princeton University in the state. It has a group of world-famous scholars and institutes in the fields of mathematics, statistics, information science, computer science, and part of humanities.


2. About the Program

School of Statistics in SWUFE signed a student cooperation agreement with the Department of Statistics and Biostatistics in Rutgers University in the spring semester of 2018. According to the Agreement, School of Statistics will recruit full-time students who are about to graduate or have already graduated from universities all over the country to pursue a master’s degree in Rutgers University. The Program was started in 2018, and has been successfully held for 2 sessions, 25 students were sent to Rutgers to complete their postgraduate studies.

Once admitted, students will spend one year in School of Statistics and take courses for 2 semesters: the first semester for preparatory courses and the second one for academic courses that provided by Rutgers Master’s Program. All credits that students obtained from academic courses will be transferred to Rutgers Master’s Program at the end of the second semester. In the meantime, students will travel to the United States and continue their second year of study in the Program. Upon completion of the Program and meeting the degree requirements, students will receive a master's degree from Rutgers University.

4. Application

a) The Program is mainly for fourth-year students, or students who have graduated with a bachelor’s degree;

b) Complete all required courses in four years with an average score of not less than 75;

c) GMAT is not a must, but IELTS should no less than 6.5, or TOEFL should no less than 90.

d) Students with a background in economics, finance, statistics, computer science, mathematics, humanities are acceptable.
