3+1+1 Program in University of Waterloo

1. About the Institution

University of Waterloo is a famous University in Canada. Founded in 1957, it is well known for mathematics, computer science and engineering. It is a research-based public university known for its collaborative education that combines learning with internships. University of Waterloo has the world's largest mathematics department, and its mathematics major is one of the most difficult and competitive among all Canadian schools and majors. University of Waterloo has been ranked number one for 10 years in a row by Maclean's, Canada's leading education magazine.


2. About the 3+1+1 Program

University of Waterloo, Canada officially signed the "3+1+1" Joint Academic Program with SWUFE in 2010. According to the Agreement, students who participate in the program will spend the first three years at SWUFE and the fourth year and subsequent postgraduate studies at University of Waterloo. Students will obtain a bachelor's degree from SWUFE and a master's degree from University of Waterloo in Canada after graduation. This program has been approved as the "Excellent Undergraduate International Exchange Program" by China Scholarship Council (CSC) from 2016 to 2019. Students admitted to the program can apply for substantial financial support from CSC. Up to now, School of Statistics has successfully sent 59 students to Waterloo for exchange and study since the beginning of the program. Most students choose to continue their postgraduate studies in Waterloo after receiving a bachelor’s degree from SWUFE, and most students work in banks and other financial institutions in Canada after graduation.


3. Application

a) Full-time third-year students in School of Statistics;

b) Have a high scholarly standing (minimum B overall average, 75 GPA, or equivalent);

c) Meet Waterloo’s English language proficiency requirements;
