Professor Jane Falkingham, Dean of Social, Human and Mathematical Sciences in University of Southampton, U.K, Visited School of Statistics and Signed Student Agreement

On May 24, 2019, Professor Jane Falkingham, Dean of Social, Human and Mathematical Sciences in University of Southampton, U.K; Qin Min, research fellow in Social Sciences, visited School of Statistics and held talks with Dean GUO Jianjun, Deputy Dean LU Wanbo, as well as some faculty representatives.

Dean GUO Jianjun extended a warm welcome to Professor Jane Falkingham and Mr. Qin Min. At the same time, he introduced basic information about School of Statistics in detail, including disciplines and majors, faculty and staff, scientific research etc. Professor Jane also introduced different majors and key research areas in Social, Human and Mathematical Sciences in University of Southampton. Later, both sides officially signed an Agreement regarding to 2+2 double degree program for undergraduates in School of Statistics. Dean GUO said that he hopes the two institutions could strengthen the cooperation through student exchange programs, including the continuous development of diversified and multi-level student exchange programs, as well as academic and scientific research cooperation among faculty members.

The 2+2 double degree program for undergraduates provided by University of Southampton was initially launched in the spring semester of 2018. The intention of cooperation was proposed by the two institutions. Later, the curriculum matching and bridging had been gradually carried out, and the Agreement has finally been signed. The 2+2 program provides a new platform and opportunity for school students to go abroad, and students show great interest in it. Currently the program has been officially launched to attract more outstanding students to apply for it.
